Sah Manuh Pankaja- Sambhavaanga-Janma----------------------That Manu, Swayambhuva, the son (off-spring) of Brahma
Samanu Smrta-Taavaka-anghriyugmah----------------------------- meditating intensely on Your pair of lotus feet
Kathayan te Charitam-----------------------------------------------and narrating Your divine exploits (heroism) /Your incarnations
Ninaaya Sukham Nijam antaram-------------------------------------spent happily his own Manvantara
Antaraaya- heenam-----------------------------------------------------free from all hindrances to his administration
Manvantaras (Of 71 3/7 chaturyugas)

He Bhagavan------------------------------------------------O Lord
Tatra Samaye Khalu Kardamaakhyah------------------During that very time, a prajapati called Kardama
Prajapati is a Vedic deity presiding over procreation, and the protector of life. He appears as a creator deity or supreme god vishvakarman above the other Vedic deities in RV 10 and in Brahmana literature. Vedic commentators also identify him with the creator referred to in the Nasadiya Sukta.
The Prajapti community cum brahmana warriors are seen as the descendants of Prajapati; Lord Brahmā, Lord Vishnu, Lord Shiva and Maharaj Manu are considered Prajapaties. Prajapati also means protector & preserver (King).
Druhina-chchaaya-bhavah---------------------------born of the shadow of Brahma
Dhrta sargarasah----------------------------------------and very keenly interested in the activity of creation
Tadeeya-Vaachaa Sisheve----------------------------following his (Brahma’s) command, worshipped
Tvaam nirsarga-ramyam ayutam samaah---------- You, abounding in naturally charming for 10,000 years
He engaged himself in penance for 10,000 years worshipping “You”, beautiful by nature and who delight the heart of devotees.

Tvam Aavish Kurushe Sma Kardamaaya-----------------------“You” did reveal to Kardama
Vapuh Garudopari-------------------------------------------------Your divine form mounted on Garuda
Kaala-megha-kamram--------------------------------------------Very beautiful like a dark rain bearing cloud
Vilasat-keli-Saroja-Paani Padmam----------------------------- holding, in “Your” lotus hand, a shining lotus flower
Hasti-ollasit-aananam---------------------------------------------and “Your” face lit up by a gentle smile
The Lord appeared in the form in which Kardama has been meditating on Him. The idea is that God takes the form which the devotee attributes to Him. He Himself being formless

Anugrhya -----------------------------------------------Having granted, as blessings,
Tasmai Stuvate-----------------------------------------to him ( Kardama-Prajapati) who was praising “You”
Pulaka-aavrtaaya-------------------------------------- with horripilation covered all over the body (thrilled)
Manuputreem Dayitaam----------------------------the daughter of Manu (Devahuti) as wife
Nava putree api -------------------------------------- and nine daughters (through her)
Cha sutam Kapilam svam eva---------------------- and a son Kapila, a part incarnation of “Yourself”
Paschaat svagatim cha-------------------------------and finally union with “Yourself” (liberation)
Abhooh nirgatah----------------------------------------“You” did depart

Bhava deerita- Naaradopadishtah------------------------ As advised by Narada, Who was prompted by “You”
Sah Manuh Mahishyaa Shataroopayaa---------------------He, that Swayambhuva Manu along with his queen, Satarupa
Cha gunavatyaa Sutayaa devahootyaa--------------------and his virtuous (moral, honest, chaste) daughter Devahuti/ and his daughter Devahuti of great virtue
Samagaat Kardamam-----------------------------------------went to Kardama
Aagati-Prateeksham-----------------------------------------who was expecting their arrival”

Asau Kardamah cha Avaapya-----------------------------this Kardama, too after attaining/having got
Devahootim tarunee-ratna--------------------------------Devahuti, a gem among women
Apahrtaaam Manunaa---------------------------------------given respectfully by Manu
Bhavadarchana-nirvrtah api-------------------------------though delighting/content in “Your” worship alone
Dadhau Prasaadam tasyaam-------------------------------was pleased with her
Drdha-shushrooshanaaya----------------------------------on account of her dedicated service

Shloka: 7
Sah Punah ---------------------------------------------He, Kardama, then
Tvadupaasana-Prabhaavaat-----------------------because of the glory of worshipping “You”
Navaatmaa Vyaharan-------------------------------assumed a new body (taking 9 bodies), and sported
Devapatheshu Devahootyaa---------------------in the gardens of Gods with Devahuti
Vanitaa-Kula-Sankulah------------------------surrounded by many celestial (divine,heavenly) damsels (female attendants)
Vimaane krte------------------------------------------in the aerial vehicle which was made by himself
Dayitaa-Kaama-Krte-------------------------------for fulfilling the desire of his beloved

Shloka: 8
Ata Shatavarsham vyateetya------------------------- Thereafter, having spent a hundred Years
Samavaapya nava kanyaah----------------------------and obtained nine daughters
Dhanyaroopaah sah ayam-----------------------------of extremely beautiful form, he Kardama,
Vana-Yaana-Samudyatah api-------------------------although preparing to retreat (act of moving back, go back) to the forest for penance
Nyavaatseet---------------------------------------------stayed on
Kaantaa-hita-krt-----------------------------------------fulfilling the desires of his wife
Tvat-janana-utsukah------------------------------------eagerly awaiting for “Your” birth as Kapila Vasudeva (a partial manifestation of “Yourself”)

Shloka: 9
Atha deva devahootyaam----------------------------------------Thereafter, O Lord! In Devahuti
Bhavannishevaa-Nirataayam------------------------------------who was ever intent on Your worship
Nija-Bhartr-Giraa---------------------------------------------------following the words of her husband
Tvam Ajaayathaa Kapilah----------------------------------------- You manifested as Kapila Vasudeva
Prathiyishyan Janaanaam-----------------------------------------for proclaiming (announce) among the people
Paramaatma-tatva-vidyaam--------------------------------------the knowledge of the truth of the Supreme being/Reality


Shloka: 10
(He) Vaayu Mandiresha--------------------------------O Lord of Guruvayoor
Kapilaatmaka----------------------------------------------who has manifested in the form of Lord Kapila!
Tvam upaadishan jananyai-------------------------May You imparted (disclose, taught,communicate) to Your mother
Matsarvasvam-----------------------------------------the whole of Your Sankhya philosophy
Principles of philosophy is called Sankhya
Kardame prasanne vanam eyushi-----------------when Kardama, being pleased, left for the forest
Tvam paripaahi maam-------------------------------May You Protect me
Tvaritam gadaughaat--------------------------------------soon from the hosts of ailments
According to Brahma’s advice, Kardama married off his nine daughters to sages Marichi and others: Kala—Marichi, Anasuya—Atri, Sraddha—Angiras, Haribhuvi—Pulasthya, Gathi—Pulaha, Kriya—Krathu, Khyati—Bhrigu, Arundhati—Vasishta, Santhi—Atharva
Then Kardama did take sannyasa with a sense of fulfillment and left for the forest to do penance
